Lego camps.

Who are the camps for?

Our camps are for elementary school children who love Lego, the majority of students are usually in K through 3rd grade, but we are happy to take pre-k students with Lego experience, and 4 and 5th graders who enjoy building and playing with Lego.

What happens in camp?

We spend the first two hours working in teams to build large scale projects, then we break for snack and a run around at Greenwood playground. We come back and spend the last hour adding smaller details to our scenes and then pulling them all together to create one giant scene to photograph and show to parents at pick-up.

Those who stay for extended hours can help destroy our creation and sort and pack the Lego, hang out and play, or build their own smaller Lego project.

Location

Most of our camps take place at the Church of the Holy Apostles, 612 Greenwood Avenue.

School Pick-up

We do camps most half days in the school year, currently pick-up is only available from PS130 (both Upper and Lower).

Upcoming camps.

Update

Currently I find myself too busy with Lego programming to spend time updating this website

This Birthday Party page remains current, camps and classes are still ongoing but are no longer being posted here. If you wish to join our e-mail list to get notifications of camps and classes e-mail eleanorlego@outlook.com.

If you previously filled out the contact form on this website and did not receive a response please e-mail me again at eleanorlego.com. It appears the contact form may have been broken for the last few months.

Afterschool May/June

Mondays and Thursdays are full – spots still available Wednesdays

Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Class is from 3-5pm, with an option for pickup from PS130 Lower at 2:20. $35/class, $10/pick-up, paid monthly. Full refund for anyone who misses class because of covid isolation.
This class is intended for students in K through 3rd and is the same class that I provided through the Wingspan program at PS130 for the last 6 years.
This class will follow themes that change every couple of weeks, eg. Ninja, Animal Center, Castle, Pirates.
Each week there will be several small kit builds which the students build following the teacher’s instructions and then they will create their own larger scene using their own designs.
We follow social distancing rules used in public school, students and staff are masked at all times.
We will be based partly in either Space Station or the Church of the Holy Apostles but, weather permitting, instruction will take place in Seeley Park (the pocket park in the alley at the top of E5th St)

Summer Camps 2021

Socially Distanced In Person Lego Summer camps in July

All camps cost $450/wk, are Monday through Friday from 9-3 and will be based at the Church of the Holy Apostles, 612 Greenwood Ave, with a bunch of time spent outdoors in Seeley Park. There may be aftercare till 5 if enough families want it. We are currently planning for the camps to be capped at ten students but that could expand if the coronavirus situation improves, also the Jungle/Zoo week may include a trip to Prospect Park zoo depending on covid safety guidance at that time.

Register here https://forms.gle/DGbKrLKYbHModjaL8. Registration does not require payment, that will be collected in May/June. If you have any questions e-mail Eleanor at rodgers_eleanor@hotmail.com

6/28-7/2 Ninjago (1st-5th grade)

This camp is based on the Lego theme and cartoon of the same name. Campers will choose their Ninja figure, build them a training dojo, learn the arts of spinjitsu and airjitsu, battle bad guys and design their own versions of Destiny’s Bounty and the Temple of Spinjits. (Spinjitsu is the Lego version of Beyblades and Destiny’s Bounty is a flying pirate ship). This camp is particularly awesome for fans of the Ninajgo theme but will work perfectly well without any prior knowledge of it.

7/5-7/9 Coney Island (K-3rd grade)

This camp centers on funfair rides, featuring roller coasters, chairoplanes and big wheels, along with a bunch of other smaller rides. We also build the beach and the boardwalk, along with shops and amusements.

7/19-7/23 Epic Adventures  (K-3rd grade)

In this camp our minfigures start out as humble folk living in picturesque cottages in the woods and get swept up in an adventure that sees them scaling very tall things, being rescued by royalty, living in a castle and leading their army in defence of their land.

7/26-7/30 Jungle/Zoo (1st-5th grade)

The first half of this camp features intrepid explorer minifigures discovering wild animals and ruined temples in the deepest jungle, then midway through the week we visit Prospect Park Zoo and on our return we bring our minifigure back from the jungle with all the animals they discovered ready to set up their own zoo. We plan the layout of our animal enclosures and include features such as dining, restrooms and a carousel. trip to Prospect Park Zoo, again depending on the general situation. Any changes will be communicated well in advance and before taking payment.

Online Classes starting in December

Lego Hangouts, $15/class
Thursday 4:15-5pm

These are 45 minute Zoom classes for up to 5 students where everyone builds with their own home Lego. The class begins with a discussion of different themes and objects we could build and then everyone will tackle the task in their own way with ongoing discussion with the teacher. At the end everyone gets to share what they built with the class.

Lego Jungle Adventures FULL Registration closed

8 Weeks, $160, 3-4pm
Monday 3-4pm
Mondays 12/7, 12/14, 12/21, 1/4, 1/11, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8

These are 60 minute Zoom classes for 5 or 6 students. Each student will receive a box of Lego kits worth around $40, containing a numbered bag of supplies for each of the 8 weeks.

Each class will combine building kits from instructional videos with creating original lego structures and scenes following the narrative presented by the teacher.

In Jungle Adventures our treehouse dwelling mini-figure explores the jungle, finding temples and rescuing animals. Then they return to the zoo to make homes for them.

Once they are set up a student in 2nd grade or up should be able to engage in the class without  further adult assistance.

For K and 1st graders the level of parental involvement will vary widely but our goal would be to keep your child intellectually and socially engaged and active with their Lego, and that mostly your involvement would be limited to having to occasionally help find necessary Lego bricks.

March/April Camps

We will have camps on 3/5, 4/9 and 4/10, 4/16 and 4/17 – detailed descriptions below.

3/5 is a half day for parent teacher conferences. Camp will provide pick up from PS130 Upper and Lower schools at 11:30. Camp is from 11:30-3:30 ($60) with aftercare from 3:30-5:30 ($30). The theme is cars.

During Spring break we are offering two two day mini-camps:

Easter
Thursday and Friday 4/9 and 4/10 is a camp organized for the Church of the Holy Apostles focusing on the Easter Story. The camp is intended primarily for the children of families attending the church but is open to anyone else who would like to join. It will be overtly religious in the sense that we will build the Easter story from Jesus entering Jerusalem to him rising from his grave, but it is intended to be a relaxed approach with plenty of room for creative interpretation of the story and the focus will be on Lego building not on religious teaching.
Easter camp is from 9-3 ($90) with possible free aftercare/hangout time till 4

Hana Matsuri
Thursday and Friday 4/16 and 4/17 is a camp themed for the Cherry Blossom Festival at Brooklyn Botanical Garden. On Thursday we’ll walk to the garden and visit the Japanese Garden and the Cherry Blossom Esplanade (where we’ll stop and do some Lego building). On Friday we’ll make our own Lego Japanese garden.
Hana Matsuri camp is from 9-3 ($90), with aftercare available from 3-5 ($30).

All camps take place at the Church of the Holy Apostles 612 Greenwood Ave.
There is a 30% sibling discount.
