There are a few spots available in my mini school for 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders.
School currently runs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and is open to both hybrid and remote students.
It is located in the basement of the Church of The Holy Apostles, 612 Greenwood Avenue. The basement is large and airy with high ceilings and windows at each end which we keep open. The students sit two to a table at opposite ends and the tables are 8 feet long. We follow social distancing rules used in public school, students and staff are masked at all times.
Drop off is from 8:15-8:30 each day and pick up is from 2:30-2:45. We spend from 8:30-11:00 every day focusing on live meetings and assignments with movement breaks in the front yard and table top Lego activities to fill in the gaps/ give people a break.
From 11:00-12:40 we spend as much time as possible outside, we eat lunch in the front yard then go to Prospect Park. From 12:40-2:30 we attend closing meetings, finish any outstanding work and play in the front yard or do an arts and crafts activity.
Our emphasis is on social interaction and play, while getting our work done. Each day we pick one or two of the assignments for the day and turn them into a group activity or class. Most often we do Math or Social Studies as a group activity, 2nd grade Subway Studies has been very popular with everyone and we have done several bridge walks in the neighborhood for 3rd grade Bridge Studies.
We have a maximum of ten students and 2 to 3 teachers, for individual work on assignments we move around the room from student to student providing assistance as needed.

Who are we?
The program is being run by Eleanor Rodgers and Eferleen Joseph. Eferleen is the site administrator for the Wingspan afterschool program in PS130 Upper school, and a former classroom assistant. Eleanor has taught Lego classes in the neighborhood for the past 7 years, in the Wingspan program and independently. She has also run lego day camps and summer camps locally. Her website is https://brooklynbricks.com/ and contains descriptions of the philosophical approach behind her Lego program and a couple of pieces in the press section that give a good sense of the feel of it.
Jack Ganley is our assistant, he previously worked as a production assistant but is preparing to start teacher training and has an interest in early childhood development.
